more likely mineral salts crystalising on the surface, probably due to a water leak above. Scrape some off and drop into a small glass of vinegar. Do they fizz?

What is above? Roof, bathroom, pipes?

Which bit is the ceiling?

Its a problem from outside when its terrible rain once suns out i then get more peeling. Its below the over flow pipe from the bathroom and above the kitchen window.
I actually had a small drop of water trickle from the cieling edge vety scary but its dry now theres no rain and baths not making it worse.

I don't know what that photo is.

Show us the pipes that are (probably) leaking, and what they attach to inside the house.

It is useful to put a hand or coin in your photos to show scale, and indicate which way is up.

The photo is the window side with the blind pully strings , Its not the pipe from the bath flow its used daily and no signs, rain stopped a 5 days ago been no wet plaster since. Ill go up a ladder tomorrow outside to see if any cracks The 2 double glazed windows above are extremely blown with damp insude, not knowning about double glazing im not sure if that doesnt help.

You have penetrating damp.

The window frame might need sealing?

Do you have cavity walls, or render?

Use the search facility to follow threads on "penetrating damp" - many with pics just like yours.

Thankyou ill search up now and I did the drop it in water test but its just like chalk. Hard to gather up like Talcum powder
is this dangerouse at all.
Cavity Walls yes, filled with terribke foam stuff which i think is in bad condition
Thanks

32 years when i had my roof relined they could see down inside. The only good thing being now summers due and its on my house all day dries everything out.
This mould or poss leak is on the bottom floor so the walls above in the bedroom are fine its definately between the 2 levels so far its only removed years of paint not harmed the plaster and only above the window and edges.

I cant reach up there well tonight i managed reached to detatched alot used a small decorating roller with a bleach mix to cover most of the area as im worried if its harmfull to health.
Ill get all loose paint off tomorrow and see where that leads.

Thankyou for all your replies ill post better photos tomorrow

Its necessary to find the cause of any water/moisture damage before any repairs.

Your plaster is damaged - plus the outside corner usually has a metal angle bead that will be rusting - maybe caused by penetrating damp over a long period.
All damage needs hacking off back to masonry and re-doing, the angle bead will need sawing off & replacing.

If the CWI is indeed bridging the cavity its usually removed.

Does this mean touching outer and inner it was sprayed in years ago i think it was meant to, its like the yellow loft stuff... horrible. It was being sold this year ( ive no choice ) still will be when its possible. Funds extremely limited being a carer. Im very hands on but not a builder.
Thanks
