Hi,

For reasons I won't bore you all with, I am replacing the skirting board in my hallway.

As is common, the plaster doesn't go down to the floor behind the skirts.

A few years ago I had a plug socket added to the hall, and they ran the supply cable in plastic trunking along the wall. Naturally I don't like the look of this.

Whilst I have the skirts off, can I re-route the cable in behind them? And would I be best to put it in plastic trunking behind the skirting board or is that likely to protrude too much?

Thanks

No you can't as anyone could put a screw or nail through it in future risking electrocution.

You know it's there but once hidden it's an accident waiting to happen.

I can't find an exact regulation saying no but it is very bad practice imo and extremely dangerous

There are specific zines where you’re allowed to run cables in walls, and behind the skirting isn’t one of them.

It is permitted if the cable is sufficiently protected; that means earthed steel conduit or armoured cable.

(You would get more answers if you posted in ‘Electrics UK’, but quite possibly too many more...)
