EPDM fix - remove wrinkles

Hi,

I’d like to ask several pieces of advice really. About 2 months ago I had my old garage roof removed and a new EPDM firestone installed.

The roofing company were all firestone approved and have given in writing

“Work comes with a lifetime guarantee for workmanship and a 25 year manufacturers guarantee for the firestone rubbercover roof.”

I look at my garage roof today and an awful amount of wrinkles and bubbles are visible (picture attached)

Id like someone with more knowledge on EPDM than myself set my mind to rest.

1) is this normal? Or was the glue not allowed enough time to gas off and hence why the bubbles have appeared?

2) do firestone provide a guarantee in writing from approved installers? Should I have received this by now?

3) if this incorrect and they refuse to fix, where do I stand? Having handed over £1500 two months ago...

4) can these wrinkles be removed DIY? Is it just a case of getting on the roof and brushing them down?

Tricky question , I expect it's waterproof...

A guy who worked for fire stone or another rubber company gave a detailed reply.

You have any luck with this. EPDM for a simple garage can of been done in one piece. If you voom in it looks like you have joints on that roof and also i'd say they weren't very good as the lettering on the rubber shouldn't be on show.

What do you mean by "had my old roof removed"?
Was the old roof stripped to the rafters etc?
Was OSB used?

Two months is much too soon for wrinkles to appear - either the materials or the workmanship wasn't up to scratch?
I'm not a roofer as such but I've noticed a few complaints ref EPDM wrinkling and lifting - I suspect its because the installers were not Mfr trained.

It’s just not been fitted correctly. They should have over boarded the roof with engineered ply that gives you the perfect surface to apply epdm . As for the wrinkles and bubbles there on there for life. There’s a subtle technique to laying epdm and it’s from the centre out, done and glued in small folds so that they can be brushed out before the adhesive sets there’s were they have fecked up. Hi Yorkshire Joe, the answers to your other enquiries are as follows. Firestone will issue a manufacturer’s guarantee for the product only as long as it is Firestone and been purchased from one of there distributors. As an approved installer you attend a course normally lasting a day were you learn all about the product and the different glueing systems that are available and also the trimming and gutter finishes. There’s no way that the team who fit that roof attended a course. Your roof is possibly the most straight forward of epdm jobs that are out there. It’s been priced about right so you’ve not been ripped off . As a registered installer you are then allowed to issue your own guarantees to cover the whole job. Get them back to do it again. If you paid cash you might struggle to get your money back, if you paid on your credit card you might be in luck. If there a reputable company they should put it right. Good luck.

This is a typical “let’s get away with 2 litres of glue instead of 5 litres of glue job”
The bubbles will stay forever.
The writing is supposed to be up. It shows that it’s Firestone LSFR low slope flat roof epdm
Firestone aren’t interested in bubbles.
The joins you see are factory joins it’s all in one piece.
Just leave it, it will never leak.
