What have you been doing today?

Well, we'll have to disagree on that. In light of the ever increasing numbers of people dying on a daily basis, you would have to be an idiot to ignore that fact as well as the instruction to socially distance yourself and head for a crowded area such as a beach or a park. We're very lucky in that we have a garden and as part of our daily exercise regime we can walk our dog 20 minutes to our allotment and spend as long as we like pottering about in the fresh air in relative seclusion. Even so, if we didn’t have a garden or an allotment we would time our walks/exercise when there were least people about. It’s tough, very tough, but not as tough as a horrible death alone in a field hospital.

You wait there... I'll be back to you after I've taken my girls for a bike ride...............

Yeah, but death from CV is neither certain, nor immediate.
If it happens at all, "it'll happen to someone else".

The same logic as with people who continue to smoke.

Nothing wrong with that. You’re all in the same household and as long as you keep a couple of metres distance from other groups, you’re following the instruction.

Perhaps if they put some adverts on the telly showing the horrors of basically drowning alone in a hospital bed like they did with smoking - fat coming out of a cigarette, a woman struggling to breathe at home on oxygen etc - people might realise its real. Maybe they could put the daily deaths of smoking on the news headlines every day too - I’m sure that would make people think twice.

I forgot to mention I also have Netflix

I'm not one for Netflix box sets but I recommend The Kominsky Method. Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin bouncing off each other. Very funny.

Netflix suggestions. Tiger King, Kim’s convenience, Always sunny in Philadelphia.

Is there anything else taking a 'proper hammering' while watching dvd's?

The punishment for smoking is more severe than the punishment for murder. And more severe than the punishment for breaking isolation.

It has been known for 60 years that smoking kills, usually by a long and horrible illness.

It kills about 50% of addicts before their time, and damages the health of the rest.

This did not stop cigarette makers plying their trade, or advertising to attract youngsters with glamour, sports sponsorship and motor racing. It did not make smokers stop.

Severity of consequences are of little importance.

Most smokers start while at school.

The trade has to keep attracting young addicts to replenish the numbers for the older ones it kills.

When a youngster hears "maybe...in 50 years...you will get ill" it means nothing to them.

But "if you smoke in the office you will be sacked" worked, and social attitudes have helped.

Behaviour is influenced by consequences that are certain and immediate.

I agree. Perhaps it’s now time for the government to stop requesting, advising and instructing and to start banning, fining and imprisoning!

The government are hardly likely to start imprisoning people, given that they're letting (some) crims out early precisely because of CV.....

You sound like a leftie snowflake.
No. Just a realist. If your kids friends were taking drugs in your house against known advice with the chance that your kids might start taking them, would you just ask/advise them to stop or ban them from your house?
