Ive done a couple (PIR between and under) without using counter battens and had no issues with screws popping or cracking, can’t see the point. If there is a bit of rafter movement and someone fat walks on the roof then the screws are gonna pop whether or not you’ve got additional battens

Up to the velux windows is 400 centres, last 2m evenly spaced. Last week I ordered 75mm pb screws (ideally be 65mm really) and got some 36mm tile backer/insulation washers coming from ebay to hold up the insulation (defacing 2p's how very dare you) also 100m foil tape for joints to make it the VCL. Hopefully it will all arrive before lockdown is all over! Not ordered the plasterboard as yet Hmm shall I go 9.5 or 12.5mm

I too regularly drill 2p's for washers, the modern ones are poor these days as they rust if they are going to get wet so I use a magnet. As a side note we were digging in the garden today and the lad found a new ish 5p and it was rusting already. Not much chance of finding any of our current coins whilst metal detecting in the future!
I'm feeling like I've been robbed now on my 100 insulation board washers for £5.94, I should have gone to the bank for some 2p's!
2p, or not 2p, that is the question, whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the board washers of ebay, costing a small fortune, or use your arms and drill the tuppences - Yup, Shakespeare always has the answers in one of his plays

Can't remember when coppers became copper coated steel, 2006 or so?
If you are going to use coins, a jig and a pillar drill makes drilling them centre much easier

I tend to buy a big sheet of plasterboard and use that to hold the insulation up.
For those extravagant enough to desire washers, they should be plastic not metal.
For those environmental enough, cut a few bits of cardboard.
