what is the best downlight

I built two story extension 7x6.5 m. it has been divided into 4 spaces
each space size is 6x3.3 m and will contain 5 down light each
what is the best LED downlight that I can used in terms of watt and the ceiling hole size?

Far more information needed but my simple answer is none of them, I think downlights are horrible in general.

I would say the larger the better, I seem to remember there are is a large selection of 2 foot square down lights designed to replace a panel in a suspended ceiling, but of course you need a suspended ceiling to fit them, the big problem is the plaster on a ceiling does not only look good, but it slows the spread of fire, so really the smaller the hole in a plaster ceiling the better, so I would say surface mounted are the best, as hole in ceiling is very small.

Electricians love downlights as they can make a lot of money wrecking your ceiling (present company excepted).

Lots of negative opinions on downlights. Can I ask why? What's a decent alternative to giving decent light that looks decent? Thanks
 
Downlights are good at lighting whatever is directly below them, but pretty rubbish at anything else.

So you either need lots of them, or put up with very uneven lighting.

There is a place for them, but they often need other forms of lighting to ensure that a room is useable.

Fair point. I just did some calcs and a downlights with a 60degree spread wold light up about 2.6m diameter of floor but then if u bring that to say worktop height or head height that is obviously less.
 
Many people seem to think the only down light is a MR16, clearly from your link you actually mean down lights in general not just MR16 lamps. However buying a lamp which does not say how big it is, it only says how far it goes into the ceiling is not some thing I would do, however my son has found some really cheap MR16 lamps and has filled the ceiling with them, no fire risk as no room above, but the work involved in wiring up would cost a fortune if your paying some one to do it, and it actually used more power than the LED taken down, it was 22 watt now 9 x 3.5 watt. OK must admit it looks better, this Kitchen bike.jpg is not my idea of looking good, and my daughter in law is not too happy either at what my son has done to her bike.

Might be an option but anything I have seen looks too commercial for domestic use.

All rooms in my house currently have pendants which IMO give poor lighting. Too many shadows and often not bright enough. Love led lighting batterns but only looks OK in garage or shed. Spotlights ain't too bad but don't look as good as downlights and suffer from similar issues. I think that larger downlights or led panels might be a good solution. However I want to install some on a vaulted ceiling which then means they really need to be adjustable. Ummm
