As title....I have
ae235.jpeg

and when the WM empties it sends pretty foul smelly water up into the sink. I've checked the trap for blockages.

How might I modify this so it doesn't stink up the kitchen?

The washing machine when emptying might be sucking all the water out of the trap which is causing smells to come up from the sewer

Or your washing machine is causing the smell

Check your trap after a drain to see if any water is left in it

If the washing is pushing water back up into the sink its because you have a blockage somewhere downstream. The washing machine pump is pushing water out faster than it can go down the drain so it only has one place to go and that is up and out of the plughole.

the inlet for the WM is slightly below the level of the waste pipe, as you can perhaps see from the picture....surely the WM is trying to push water uphill...no wonder it can't escape quickly enough...

That's totally normal and what is fitted to millions of washing machines without pushing water out of the sink

Apologies I didn't read your first post correctly , you have a blockage downstream somewhere , if you see how long it takes for the water to come up into your sink that will tell you roughly how far down the pipe it is

Funny that the sink drains very well, if there's a blockage. I'll take everything to bits and see if I can spot anything. Thanks

As above, clear the drain hose and trap.
Does the hose run high, and then drop to the trap spigot?
A pic showing under the sink plumbing might help?
Is the trap arm discharging thro the wall to a gulley or a Tee?

I sorted it out....the issue was the pipe taking it all away was a little too level...I made mods to the whole setup and have a better fall on the system. Cheers guys
