First time user of those forum so hopefully I'm doing this right!

I'm trying to fit blinds. I'm using a side fitting bracket so that I don't have to mess around with the lintel, however for some reason I still cannot drill deep enough into the side of the recess. I manage to get about maybe 1cm in then hit something my drill won't go through. Any suggestions?

how old is the house, what sort of internal walls ?

It's a 1950's/1960's ex council house. I've realised what the issue is, it's just brick walls everywhere. I needed to use a masonry bit. Silly me!

OP,
If you can you post a pic I'll be able to help you better with your question?
Is this in a bay?
What kind of bit are you using?
10mm could be the plaster depth - & the plaster might have metal/meshing behind it?
Did it feel like metal or something else?
