Keep an eye on Aldi and Lidl tool sales, they sometimes have SDS drills on sale at between £30 / £40. There is no substitute, or adaptor for SDS.

Don't cut the bits, get the SDS drill to use them - you won't regret it.
FWIW I have one of the SDS drills from Lidl, its lasted me 11 years+ so far with occasional DIY use, drilled through 22" walls, chiseled holes into stone flags and is still going strong.

I have to agree with Mattylad - if you think you'll end up drilling a reasonable number of holes over the years and/or chipping off tiles and/or breaking out smaller bits of masonry or concrete, then a 2kg class SDS drill (with rotation stop) is an excellent investment

Gone for a Makita. I will use it and have some garden work to do over summer with sleepers so it will come in very handy. Also, bought a SDS head to normal drill head so I can use both. Think it will come in handy. Thanks everyone. greatly appreciated
