I live in Norfolk and the best price for cement I can find is at Wickes at 4.20/25kg bag.

A bit shocked as I just moved here from Germany and you can get basic cement for 2.50/bag in any do-it center, even cheaper if you go to a contractor place and buy a lot.

I need around 180 bags, so it makes quite some difference. The steel here also seems expensive, as well as the ballast.

Anyone know where to get the best deal on cement, 20mm all-in, and steel in Norfolk?

Open a trade account with one of the larger merchants and negotiate a better price if you are bulk buying.

What are you making with 180 bags. Have you thought about ready mix? :)

I am building a workshop in my backyard, but it is 70 meters from the street, which is a long way to wheel barrow, and I don't really have a bunch of guys to help me with that. It needs to be done in at least 3 pours, the footing, grade beam, and then floor, so 3x set up and wash up if it is pumped.

Ready mix is probably the same price as raw materials here, which in itself seems a bit odd. The problem is I cannot really take it at the speed I would need to get it off the truck. If I mix it myself, then I can do it at my leisure, and I could probably use the exercise.

It's why Internationals call the UK "Treasure Island" - we pay through the nose for everything.

trade point have a very good price for cement. blue circle multi purpose 25kg bag is £4.02 including VAT.

Thats on trade account though.

Tradepoint is rubbish, better off joining the B&Q DIY club - same prices and if you scan your card at the till they email you a £5 off £30 or £10 off £75 type voucher every time. Round here you'd be better off with barrowmix for that job, they might charge a bit extra for the distance (or offer to tip the lads a bit) - I think ours including up to 20m of barrowing.
