Update on newbie doing Drive belt progress, need further help please

View attachment 190512 They should both slot in here.

but if I try to fit it so that the metal tab goes in there I would have to put the tensioner on wonkey as it doesn't line up the tensioner should go on straight. When I put tensioner on strasight the metal tab is about 1.5 inches away from that hole also it would not actually slot in and fill that hole as the hole is way bigger than the metal tab, I assume that's for the dowel that some have on the back

Don't understand what you are saying

hi
mate
you said that large hole which is for the dowel isalso for the metal tab on the tensioner. Well the metal tab is not near that hole when the tensioner is lined up straight on the engine. the large hole si for a dowel on the back of some tensioners

Whatever is sticking out on the tensioner goes in the smallest hole in the block. No other way. Can't put it any simpler. The new one, when it comes, will be locked into position. Fit the sticky out bit of that into the smallest hole of all the holes around the tensioner bolt hole. Fit the belt, tighten slightly to remove the tensioner locking pin and release the tensioner. Job done.

hi, thank you
on this photo you sent me, where the red arrow is that is the top of the tensioner where it sits when lined up straight on the car. As you can see the hole for the dowel is about 0.5 inche from that so if

As you can see the hole for the dowel is about 0.5 inches to the left from that so if I was to insert the small metal tab in the big hole for the dowel the tensioner would be put on at a very wonky position instead of being straight it would almost be going lengthways

if the new ones comes with a dowel it will be simple

It can only go on one way. It won’t be lengthways when the belt is on and tensioned.

so I have to put the tensioner on at a angle to fit the tiny metal tab into the large dowel hole tighten up the tensioner ? but then the tension will not be top-bottom it will be slenty

You've bent the tab on your orignal tensioner and could possibly strip the threads or snap a piece off the engine block if you carry on.

I would genuinely pay for a Mobile Mechanic to come and fit the new tensioner when it arrives.

Theres no shame in having a go but you could end up in a world of sh1t if you snap the bolt off etc..

Hi
No I haven't, why do you think so ? if anything looks bent it is nothing with what I have done to it. even if it is bent, if that metal tab on the tensioner is supposed to go in the lug hole it is nowhere near it when the tensioner is lined up straight.
I am hoping the new tensioner has a dowel/lug on it so it will simppy slot in. thansk

I mentioned in post #111 that the peg on the tensioner was maybe accidentally flattened.....is a new tensioner on the way?
John :)
hi
I did not flatten anything. the tensioner has not arrived after 1 week , I ordered it from euros today I am fed up with royal mail losing parcels.
I hope the new tensioner will have the dowel/lug on it as it will be simpler to put back on, this one doesnt line up witrh naything
