Advice needed! My husband found and removed a small section of pipe from the kitchen wall after removing some boxing where what looks like an old boiler was. He has said it slid out from the wall easily and was fully in tact and in good condition. However I'm just worried about the potential dust or particles that may have been released from doing so. Is there any need to be worried? any advice on what I should do next, is it worth arranging a test to be carried out on the pipe for peace of mind?

It doesn’t look like asbestos, although the picture isn’t the best. Asbestos fibres are generally released when damaged. Have you looked inside, to see if it’s aluminium? Can you apply some slight pressure (using hands with gloves on)to it? If it bends it’s not asbestos.

Also FYI - probably shouldn’t be posted in forum information.

Impossible to tell from those photos, but if it is asbestos then any dust will have already floated around in the air so it's too late now.

the picture doesnt really show clearly i know. it's definitely not aluminium, its a cement product.
I've moved the post now, thanks for the heads up!!

It's an asbestos cement flue pipe and the safest of all asbestos products, if it just slid out then the chance of any fibres being released will be minimal. Use a damp cloth to sweep any dust that came from hole then double bag the pipe and cloth . Local tip may have an asbestos skip for it to go in

Yep there’s not much else it could be to be fair. best practise is as above but spray water on it before removal! Obviously too late now!

Bit late now if you breathed it in..
Will take about 40years to cause any damage.

I read that title as "Asbestos Flu" thought that's all we need now on top of covid.

On a more serious note, I worked a bit with asbestos 30 40 years ago, and still managing big miles on the push bike, but it is something that does prey on my mind, had a few aunties uncles die of asbestosis, horrible way to go. I don't think there is any safe level of exposure but I think it mostly affects people who have worked with it daily over months and years, thankfully my exposure was nothing like that.
