I need a couple of metres of armoured cable for an out door plug socket. There's some 2nd hand on Ebay. But I'm a bit confused by the different core and sizes. There's a few that are 3 or 4 core. What do I need?

Part P regulations are in place to keep people electrically safe, outside sockets come under this. If you're having to ask, I suggest you get an electrician.

If this is confusing you then you need a Sparky

Also, have you worked with armoured cable before? It may not be a straight forward fit at the supply end depending on what you're connecting it to.

I haven't worked with armoured cable before. It seemed quite simple, I just have to connect it to the box that the electrician left for me, and then to the plug socket right below.

Why encourage this OP...no tools...no idea and prob no testing gear

If its only a metre or two, and there is no risk of impact damage, and its not buried, you could use a short length of suitably sized rubber cable, like this

Have you heard of UV light? If you haven't, then you'll be one of the many that puts grey electrical cable, underground brown 4" soil pipe and fittings, and white 32mm and 40mm white solvent weld pipes and pipe fittings outside to degrade.

That's why there are qualified tradesmen to do the job right so the customer doesn't botch the job, create a risk, wastes their money on materials and leaving a **** visual job.

Eh? Are you real???
Of course, I am fully aware of the degradation caused to PVC cable by UV light. But you will note that (if you read my post) that I did not specify PVC cable. I also qualified my response by the environment.
In case you are not aware, SWA is not the ONLY cable that may be used outside.
