Bottle trap wont seal at basin level

Chrome sink outlet 38 mm. Replace that it should fit the traps that you have. Just check it’s 38 mm in width. They also come in 32mm.

It’s the same thing we’re I’m from.
Different size traps ,waste fittings , taps ,and waste pipework for sinks ,and basins.
It helps to know the difference when trying to source plumbing fittings for one or the other.

You would think that if the basin outlet is 38mm then the trap is the same. But as you know pipe work sizes can vary and change in certain circumstances, I thought the idea of this site was to point people in the right direction.

It is Johnny ,and now anyone reading this thread will know that sinks and basins are not the same thing ,might even find it very useful to know that they require different fittings.

Managed to get the mcalpine and fit it in but i think due to it being plastic and the waste being metal i've stripped it as there were two protuding metal screw hooks which were shredding my hands making it difficult to get it on. There are no leaks when the faucet is running except when i pop down the stopper, let the water accumulate and then release. The leak seems to be coming from the coupler which i believe is to the stripped threading. Are metal EU>UK conversions available? Not particular bothered about colour as it is hidden under a metal frame. Thanks

Are you sure it isn't leaking higher up ,where the large silver hexagonal nut is ,and running down the thread ? The washer under the hexagonal nut is way out of centre ?

Any food colouring will do I normally get some dark red from Tesco about a£1. It washes off without staining.

Dry it all thoroughly. Fill basin ,hold tissue paper / toilet roll high up where the silver nut and seal are and pull plug out . If it's leaking up there the tissue will get wet !!

Definitely not leaking from the top, it's coming from the top of the conversion coupler

Seeing as it hasn`t been replaced I am not surprised! What I do find surprising is the shredding of hands and threads from "metal hooks" so I suggest changing everything because clearly something is not right here.
