Bottle trap wont seal at basin level

Why not just fit a new waste ?
You said that the reason you wanted to fit a new trap was because you had leaks with the original.
It seems to me that the waste itself may be the issue.
I can see it's awkward to work on with those two stupid bits of metal sticking out ,and in the way. No idea what they are for ,do they actually have a purpose ?

I had the original leak with the trap not the waste. I think i'm not explaining myself well, the leak as it stands now, is coming from the mcalpine eu>uk adapter which is believe is because i've accidently stripped it hence wondering if there was a metal varient. Honestly have no idea what the bits of metal are for!

It's clear from your earlier post today ,that you think you may have stripped ( cross threaded) the thread on the adaptor ,and you may well have.
Have you removed it ,inspected the plastic threads on the adaptor ,and tried to re fit it ?
There are two places where your set up can leak ( not counting the hexagonal nut ,which you have advised is ok )
1. Where the adaptor meets the waste.
2. Where the trap meets the adaptor.
And there has to be a seal at both positions ,of course.

Where is the leak ?
I have not seen a chrome adaptor personally ,nor have I looked for one. But I would be surprised if they are not made .

It was just a case of me being stupid, it required just a little more tightening at the conversion adapter and now no leaks! Thanks alot mate
