Hi all,

There has been some damage to our porch roof which soe tiles breakin near the top. Is this something we could fix ourselves?

I dunno, could you? o_O

The top bedded tiles will need to come off, they may break in the process, Then you can add the new tiles below them, and then bed the new top row back. Accessing, cutting, mixing, doing. Can you do it?

The thing is though, why have several tiles broken in that place at the same time? Has the roof dropped? Is the roof moving? Does it need a flexible lead flashing in place of those rigid bedded tiles? I dunno that either. Perhaps it may need looking at by someone who does.

Hi,

We removed some cladding from the house which hit the roof unfortunately. So nothing to do with the porch moving

That porch has seen its fair share of DIY - gutter falling the wrong way, door dropping probably due to zero toe & heel packing, eaves course missing (?), bedded mortar fillet instead of lead flashing, gutter too short.

The porch was actually done by professionals hired by the past owner. Not knowing much about porches we didn't notice all these little things and are noticing now :( so many botch jobs throughout the house so we are trying to correct as much as possible ourselves.

There's definitely some concave action going on with that porch roof.....thought it was a camera artefact but the brick courses look straight. DIYable- depends what tools you've got and how comfy you are working at height. That cement fillet thing instead of a proper flashing is an invitation for leaks- wonder if that's why the roof has gone baggy?
