Advice on connecting fast flow shower waste

Yup, I'm sure the push fit PP pipe is larger OD as well so if it's solvent weld elbows you have then they should be too small, not too large. Are you sure it's 40mm waste you have there? Measure the diam & let us know, if it isn't 43mm then not too sure what pipe you might have.

Marley do have a push fit range but again the pipe should be larger than solvent weld fittings you have if they follow standards.

Let us know what the diameter of the waste pipe is.

If it's old push fit then it may be PP and you may need to use push fit, wouldn't be me though

It should still be larger than solvent tho, not smaller ..... o_O

That may well be your issue, Push Fit and Solvent weld are not compatible. IIRC push fit is a slightly bigger OD and doesn't fit the McAlpine traps with the insert in the outlet very easily, whereas solvent weld is a snug fit.

Although the Floplast solvent weld fittings says 40mm, the fittings themselves state they are 43mm (zoom in to read the writing on the white elbow). The OD of the Marley pipe is 40mm exactly.

Given that the existing pipe, that I'm hoping to re-use, was connected using push fittings, so I don't know if I can solvent weld it, I think I may revert to my original idea of using a flexible pipe, probably the Mcalpine flexcon2.[/QUOTE]

OK, having another look on the Marley web site, if you look closely at the straight coupler push fit fitting they are marked 41mm (1 1/2"), which would suggest that their push fit pipe would be 40mm. The other thing that seems clear is that the push fit fittings are PP (polypropylene) which means the pipe may be the same and as such they wouldn't be a glued waste pipe system.

So you have 2 choices -
1) replace the current system for a standard ABS/PVC solvent weld system - my choice
2) keep it as is and use Marley's push fit fittings or other fittings - compression may fit - that can accommodate the narrower pipe
