Hello, This is a strange one and yes we must be missing something. The Bathroom sink fills up without a plug in it. We disconnected the ubend. We can see the floor clearly through the plug hole itself, the ubend is clear and not blocked and the outlet pipe on the wall has been rodded with no indications of a blockage. So why, when all is reconnected does my bathroom sink start to fill the instant I open up a tap without a plug in it? The water starts to accummulate in the sink instantly and does not drain ! Help! We are at our wits end.

Try pouring water down the outlet pipe with a jug or something to see if it really is clear.

And like this with a bucket underneath , when you run the tap, the water comes straight out into a bucket on the floor

What is the other end of the pipe connected to ? gully or soil stack ?

What type of plug is on the basin?
Is it a pop-up or click-clack?

If yes, then check that the adjustable stopper allows the chrome dome to properly lift. If it's just a normal plug then you have a blockage somewhere.

Neither goes into - not through- the wall. There are no visible outlets on the whole of the house or any others. Would seem everything goes down and into the ground. Also there are no drains in the roads round here!

You haven't said yet whether it's a new problem or new install. But sounds like a blockage downstream of the U-bend. You could try a proprietary chemical cleaner (caustic soda based), if possible into the pipe downstream of the U-bend to give it a better chance of reaching the problem.

Maybe the rod is going down the centre but the pipe is still thick with grease, wax hair etc.
