Wiring an LED mirror in bathroom

HI
I have a new LED mirror that I fitted in my bathroom,the problem is the existing wiring in the bathroom only has Red & Black (L&N) and no earth to connect to from the mirror itself....I have taped the Earth cable momentarily. The Led mirror works fine but the shaver socket in it stopped after using it once. Is the Earth not being wired on the problem?

Do the installation instructions say the mirror must be earthed?
If it does then you must provide one.
It is essential to provide your safety.

however, lack of earth should not affect the operation of the shaver point.

Thanks your reply,just read instructions and it say "This product requires an Earth connection".....unfortunately as theres no Earth to go to in the existing wiring what can be done? The LED is working etc??

As above. Is it possible to pull an earth to the mirror?
The lack of one won't stop the shaver socket from working though. So if the light works, but the socket doesn't then it looks like it's faulty.

It MUST MUST be earthed.
If there is a fault then the metal case can become live. You, or your kids touch the metal part then they DIE.

If it is earthed properly then all that happens under fault conditions is the fuse or MCB blows and disconnects the supply.
You have two options, as above, provide a tested earth and connect it properly. Or disconnect and return it.
It is dangerous. Really.

PS if non of your lighting circuits have an earth then you must not be using metal switches or light fittings that require an earth. Really.

Thanks for the advice. The bathroom is tiled and no way of running an Earth to it. The LED mirror casing is Metal . Recently I was under the bath checking for leaks before painting removable panel etc and noticed that has an Earth going to it? Looks like the £140 cabinet has to be removed and blank the old wiring off? Of course my families safety is paramount. Thanks

Additionally I connected the Live & Neutral with those little orange splice line connectors...to the wires work there way loose as they only push fit?

Check the cable again - the earth may have just been cut off, should be between the red/black wires.

Hi,thank you all for any advice given.
I am trying to find a work around to make sure a bathroom cabinet isn't a conductor and dangerous without an Earth in the existing wall.
If I purchased a double insulated LED mirror cabinet to replace the one mentioned would that suffice and ultimately be safe and remove the need of an Earth cable etc?

Yes, a double insulated cabinet would be OK. Your electrical installation is obviously “of a certain age” and you should consider having a report on it. Some of it may we’ll need replacing.

Ok that sounds like an option then. We did have a split board installed 8yrs ago. And the enamel bath is earthed??? I'll look at the feed again to see if Earth is in there somewhere but dont think so.

The installation certificate for the consumer unit should have detailed the lack of earth in the lighting circuit.

If you really have got twin red/black cable with no earth, it will be around 60 years old and should have been replaced several decades ago.
