Hi

Can any one see what is wrong with this installation, if anything?
In order to get the shower going I have to drop the shower head onto the shower tray and then can pick it up again and it goes OK
Also there seems to be a lot of air getting into the shower system? I have been through two pumps in 6 months. I didn't get this installed I inherited this as a house purchase.

Any help appreciated.

The up and over pipework on the hot supply is causing the problem, getting the pump dropped on to the floor would certainly help.

Plus a dedicated cold feed from cold storage cistern to pump and the hot feed to be according to the manufacturers' specification.

What is wrong with it:
1. It should be at the base of the hot water cylinder, not near the top. Not enough flow to get it started.
2. The hot feed should be from a special type of flange, not straight off the rising vent. Air will get into the pump and ruin it.
3. The cold requires its own feed from the cold water storage cistern. And should be taken off below the cold feed to the hot water cylinder to avoid scalding risk.
4. All the rigid pipework should be clipped, or at least that branch currently coming off the cold feed. Will put too much pressure on the joints.

Have a look on Salamander pumps website...they have a very detailed guide on pump installation.
Given you have a regenerative pump you will probably get away with swiveling that tee round so the hot is taken off from bellow the pipe (the air released when the cylinder heats can then find it's way up the safety vent).

The height difference from the cistern water level to the shower head must comply with the pumps stated minimum...I suspect you will need a negative head pump..otherwise start it by lowering the shower head.

Thank you for the replies
All good advice and I can now see what is wrong
The access in the area is terrible, can the additional piping be done in plastic pipe and push fit connections do you think?
Cheers
