Paint keeps cracking

Hi all,

Ive just been doing some painting. Ive got a couple of problem areas where the paint starts cracking/peeling within a few hours of putting it on! Yesterday I stripped teh area down, sand papered it and put another coat on. Checked his morning and its started peeling again!

The paint Im using is:

It could be that these are cold spots in the room? (its an old cottage). What do I need to use to stop this happening?

Or perhaps I should put a coat of this on first (I know its meant to be for woodwork) and then paint over?

Any recommendations welcome.

Instead of telling us what paints you got, you should have been showing us the paint that is peeling again BEFORE you strip it. There is obviously something there that your new paint does not like.

Is the paint the Eclipse you posted on your other thread?

Agreed, photos would help.

As a guess, the walls may currently have distemper (limewash) on them. Is this the first time that you have painted them? Is the problem localised or all over the walls?

Yes, I tried to take photos of the peeling paint, but my phone's camera is so rubbish. Ill take some photos this morning and upload them here.

No, its not the Eclipse paint. The paint Im using is the Dulux Calico.

The property is a cottage. I think theyre lime plastered, but theyve had years and years of coats of paint on top. Probably lead paint and all sorts. The walls are cold and prone to mold. The problem is localised. Ill take some photos to give you context.

I don't think lead was ever used in emulsion (one thing less to worry about).

Have you repainted the walls previously though? If you had and had no problems that will eliminate some of the possible causes.

I did repaint those walls. Probably about 7 years ago. It would have been a slap-dash job (I had no idea what I was doing. I still dont! Evidently!). But they havnt peeled before, until now.

This is one problem patch. Top corner of wall. The wall with the painting on is party wall, the other wall is an external:

Photo #2 shows stains or dampness coming through. Photo #4 probably stains. I can't see anything on the other photos, cleaning the lens

might have helped.

Did you do the previous decorating, and if yes was there wallpaper on the wall? Or did you use PVA to fix some problem areas?

Haha, yes, perhaps my lens need a good clean too!

I did do the previous decorating. I wouldnt have done any prepping. So a bodge job! However, this time Id like to do a proper job of it.
