Hi,

I’ve never removed a toilet or sink before but I want to do this now for flooring.

Everyone says it’s easy but with the lockdown I really can’t afford to be without a toilet!

from what I can see online, some toilets have a hole in the floor, others have a pipe in the back. I’ve seen this done online with a flexible tube which looks quite easy.

I have attached pics of my toilet. It seems it’s a pipe in the back, but I’m worried I won’t be about to reattach.

it seems to be a 4 inch pipe out the wall, a bit of flexible tube into another pipe.

the floor is 4.5mm.

Will I be likely to be able to easily silicone this in?

some people are talking about having to get a new wax ring.....I presume that’s not my set up as the pipe is in the back, not the floor?

advice would be massively helpful.

I also have a washbasin I am removing. Would a 4.5mm floor make it impossible to reattach?

help appreciated guys. I have my wife and my mother in law watching so this is a massive man-test!

Stop worrying you will be fine!

All toilet wastes are push fit, it looks like you have an off set one, if the fins are damaged when you disconnect simply replace it they are only a fiver to buy.

You have some leeway in the Flexi connectors and waste for the sink so you will be fine on that too

Are you planning to sit the toilet on the new flooring ? If so you might need to adjust the position of the toilet slightly to fit it back on the waste , will the cold feed fit back on?

the cold feed is a coil of flexible pipe - see pic

pretty confident no issues there

am I right in thinking I will need new screws in the cistern to the wall as it will now be 4.5mm higher?

also, sorry to bug you but the pedestal in my original pics has the same flexible hose. There isn’t loads of slack in them but there is a bit. I hope they will go back on when it’s back on, do you reckon so?

I guess if it doesn’t I will just cut around it!

Yes I suspect you will need new screws as you will have to move the toilet slightly to fit it back onto the waste (and plugs) but until you put the toilet back you won't know

There does appear to be enough slack in your basin tails but again until you put it back together .....

The basin waste won't be a problem however

Nice one. You’re a legend mate I can’t thank you enough.

Looks like youll get a deluge of $hitty water when you disconnect, the pipe looks to be running uphill unless its a trick of the camera

Not a problem

Don't forget to put a plastic bag secured with an elastic band over the toilet waste unless you fancy smelling s*** whilst laying your new floor!

that’s a pic taken from a level angle

Have a Plan B ready which in your case would be - Nick a parking cone, turn it upside down and insert a bin liner! :ROFLMAO:

Replace pan connector as a matter of course, they are guaranteed to leak once disturbed. Flexi tap connectors, try and get them as straight as possible, any bends should be gradual. Forcing them to fit, sharp bends or kinks can result in premature failure. (And a flood.)

Personally I wouldn't fit Floplas when SF do a Mcalpine which are better ,talking connectors in general, Ive not used flexible as try for solid type ,silicone isn't recommended ,they have their seals fitted

I am assuming that you are tiling the floor ? if so, are you overboarding before tiling ? if so, taking into account the thickness of the board, adhesive and tiles, you may have to change your soil pipe connector for a flexible one to accommodate the difference in height between soil pipe and wc. also remember you will be needing to mark and drill through the tiles to fix toilet to floor, as as previously said, you will need to fix cistern at new height. this is all assuming you are tiling the floor . also if tiling the floor, it does look like you will need to change either the tails or get longer flexi pipes for the handbasin, as yours do not look like they have enough movement in them to cope with the difference in height. as I say, this all depends on if tiling or not. only reason I mention this is because of seeing cardboard under a wall tile ;)

You don't need a flexible connector you have an offset one , this is the one you need

https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-macfit-mac-4-wc-20mm-offset-pan-connector-white-90-112mm/36108

Once you have the old connector in your hand you can compare it as it's possible it's a straight pan connector and a trick of the camera is making it look like an offset one

You do not need any silicone whatsoever like I said before all toilet wastes are push fit, nothing else is required to fit them (except maybe for some washing up liquid to help them to slide on easier )
