Hi.
Need to block up external side door. Was thinking of brick on outside and block on inside. Will be rendered after.

It has a large step/lintel at bottom. Would this need to come out so I can make cavity or am I OK to build on top?

Will use wall ties and also tie into adjacent brick work.

Cheers

Does your step bridge the internal floor
I would remove the step to form cavity then brick up to damp course and install 4inch dpc then brick up

Why would you do bricks and render? Assuming you mean render on outside

Bricks property. Would you just go with block?

Have quite a lot of brick left from removing internal wall, etc.

Was thinking brick on outside, and block internally.

I can foresee the OP posting "How do I repair vertical cracks in render and plaster?" in a few weeks time.

Was going to use the wall ties.

Wondering though would some L brackets suffice?

Internally the trick is to buy an 8' x 4' plasterboard (9.5mm?), remove enough existing plaster and dab it over the lot. It rarely cracks in any case unless the blocklayer is sheeite. The renderers we use fix mesh to the outside.
