Well, well, well. Was The Donald right yet again.

Should take up smoking, seemingly it halves your chance of contracting covid.

Similarly, not using a seat belt reduces the risk of serious bruising to the neck and torso in bad car crashes.

Neck maybe (though probably not), torso not so. In the bad old days people used to get implaled on steering columns.

Anyway, it was hardly a serious post.

My understanding was that it might help recovery. Tried by China and also here on hospitalised patients but no comments so far. Probably tried elsewhere as well.

Tried here - it's been mentioned. Probably others as well. Recent mention of a particular type of ibuprofen. It's still seems to be suggested that people do not take the usual one at home if they become infected. News item yesterday. ;) I'm old fashioned if I feel I need something like that I use aspirin. I do think that too much use extends the duration of the usual things we catch so I resist and may take one in the late evening.

There is also an antiviral that wasn't approved being trialled - maybe. Maker gave their entire stock to the USA. No more info than that.

The theory was it might and a small study implied it did. Scientists looked at the study size and said, 'interesting but we need more data as it could be a false positive'. Trump said 'its the cure, everyone should take it now'.

The larger and more rigourous studies have tried to confirm it. So far it's been what scientists have been concerned about, Hydroxychloroquine seems to be more dangerous than helpful. There's still other studies going on but due to the number of deaths from hydroxychloroquine quite a few have been ended early.

that's the thing about medicine. Might help some people, but might kills others. Can't tell a billion people to take it to save the world if it means half a million have heart attacks.

Actually, that's the entirely wrong thing to do. Asprin /paracetamol work in a different way to ibuprofen

You shouldn't mix asprin and paracetamol, but you can combine one or the other with ibuprofen. (Safer to use paracetamol)
The drugs work in totally different way

Also, it's better to take pain killers /nsaid's reasonably early, to "ward off" pain, rather than soldier on and need more pain control
