(Yet another) Is this asbestos?

Hi,

I've been doing some DIY during lockdown and came accross a couple of pipe wrap materials I've never seen before, I can't seem to find anything resembling either of these on Google either.

Has anyone seen either of these before? I'm probably over-worrying but wanted to check before tearing them out.

I’d assume it is unless told otherwise, asbestos pipe insulation was a thing

Yeah, could well be. Get an asbestos testing kit (there are plenty on Amazon/ebay) - you post off samples which they analyse.

Having been around asbestos insulation in the 70's - and still here ! - I agree with the other guys but your photo is a bit close. You are probably NOT over worrying . I'm just lucky @ 66 and still OK.

Hi- my first post in this forum, it looks what is sometimes referred to as ‘monkey muck’ asbestos insulation. Can be really flakey if disturbed, so pls take caution if you are looking at taking a sample.

I use these and have done for the last 5 years , just had results of another 4 samples yesterday.

When you take a sample, apart from ppe, soak the material and the area if possible and use a sharp knife instead of a serrated blade.
Spray water as you cut.
