UPDATE!

Hi all, thanks for your fantastic suggestions.
I drained down yesterday, replaced the valve and refilled and now my heating is fixed!

However... this morning my water is BLUE!
Really bright neon blue. It seems to be affecting the hot water taps throughout the house.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
I know copper can turn water blue but could this have just suddenly happened ?

This is the water - I filled the bath a little so you can see the colour properly.
Excuse the bathroom decor - it’s a 70s house and we haven’t got round to renovating the bathroom yet.

It is not related to the MV that you fitted. Did you go in loft to isolate header tank? Could you have knocked something into the Cold Water Storage Cistern?

Is it blue when not in the blue bath? ;)

haha yes it is you cheeky bugger!

I didn’t go into the loft to the tank I turned off the water under the sink.

my plumbing knowledge is limited but if something had fallen into the cold water storage tank what would happen?
Does the cold water tank supply water to the hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard which then supplies hot water to all the hot water outlets throughout the house ?

Yes, cold water tank refills your cylinder, which is then heated up and supplies your hot taps.

header tank supplies the radiators.

Right, up in the loft I go to check them out.

header tank is the smaller tank isn’t it?
Cold water storage is the large tank.

And they’re both completely separate so if something is in one it won’t go into the other ?
