How can I tell if gas is run to a house ?

Can you open one of the boxes and see if there is a gas meter in it?
Or perhaps just the gas supply pipe?
Tesco sell the key.

As Andy said, the meter has disappeared. But the supply pipe and the pipe into the house are both there, so provided the supply is still live (which can easily be checked by removing the cap and opening the valve slightly) it shouldn't be too much trouble or expense to reinstate it. Presumably though there are no gas appliances, so these would need to be installed if you want to use it.

Thank you, thats helpful

Unusual for a home with a gas supply available to it, to use electric storage radiators, unless the previous owner had an intense dislike of gas.

Transco might know if there is a supply at the address and the state of it.
