Furlough fraud.

Few blokes who worked at the BL factory had Perks in spare. Car parts.

Over a period of time they built new cars in the back gardens :)

Than some one said it was theft
Back in the day a mate brought his Capri engine into work a bit at a time to rebuild it, not quite as big as this

I tried to claim the self employment money but could not get through the maze of questions on the online claim process. Tried the helpline and spent over an hour listening to music. Tried my accountant who was no help either.
Thankfully I was never off work.

I know off people who set up 3 bogus companies and claimed £150k.
Know another bloke who has just claimed £7k. And says he will get another £5k in the second round.
He was off work for 2 weeks.
He is currently hoping for a second wave next year.

If this is true, and I highly doubt it, then if you are a tax payer why don't you report it?
I believe the rules stated something along the lines that it is based on your last 3 years tax submissions and if you hadn't been trading within the last 12 months you wouldn't be entitled to anything as you will not have submitted any returns yet.

At the end of the day this money has to come from somewhere and it is the tax payer who will bear the brunt of it in some form or other.

It was a topic on the Jeremy Vine show today. I personally know of three employees working for different companies while furloughed. I know that they could/should say no but that would put their job in jeopardy. I blame the employers. There’s many working that don’t even know that their employers are claiming furlough money from the Govt. taxpayer I hope they get caught.

The Government doesn't have any money of it's own, I've amended it for you...

I’m not ****ing stupid. But tell me for future reference, how do we go about claiming from the taxpayer?

I was off for about a month on full pay, I'm now back at work.
I was asked and agreed to taking a week of my holiday towards it - I had a good rest and still have a job.
I'm happy with that.

Company was good to give you full pay rather than 80% and you were good to give up a weeks holiday, give and take, everyone's a winner.

Not sure if he can do something else with his skills but the companies who do this are few and far between in the UK and we'd have to move.......

I've never really bought into the argument that anyone in I. T. would "have to move" for their employment.
Surely, one of the fundamentals of I. T. is its freedom from geographical constraints?

Depends on the set up/need I guess.

His office liked him there, though he did work from home 2 days a week anyway, much to their annoyance. The one huge office had all them in there, bosses, engineers etc so it kind of makes sense. He's had a couple of feeler phone calls from his boss with this lockdown about how it is working from home. We have a feeling they will change their outlook after covid and downsize their swanky office which costs a fortune to rent and let people rotate working from home more often.

A project manager friend of mine has not had any time off since lockdown ;he's just moved from office and site meetings, to Zoom and Teams.
Within a fortnight, I told him that the top brass would surely see the folly of splashing cash on large posh city - centre offices (worldwide, too) that they don't need.

He told me this week that the top brass have indeed looked at it, and realised that they are spending £10 million p. a. that they don't need to.......

Aren't furloughed employees allowed to work elsewhere - as long as their employer approves?

Yeah, waste of dosh for sure.. It's going to be interesting to see how things change. My better half's company moved a couple of years ago to their swanky one, spending over a million quid trying to be like google offices. Football table, pool table, beer in the fridge, fruit basket every morning, posh coffee machines etc. It's not appreciated coz their staff would just prefer a pay rise

I was about to say the same. This is not the time to be investing in commercial property.

Yes they are allowed and no the furloughing employer does not need to know or approve unless it is within the contract.
