I had Residence 9 windows installed about 5 months ago. Some windows have developed a strange bloom which only appears to affect part of the DG unit. Installers have already replaced some units but others have now started to have this problem. What could be causing this? Is this a common problem? I attach a picture of one window with this problem.

It looks like a faulty batch from the manufacturer . Sometimes the spacer bars don’t get filled or sealed properly. There still in guarantee so don’t worry. Looking closely at your picture they have failed. Ring the company that fit them you should have a fensa guarantee. Hope this helps.

Totally agree with Johnny Allround above.

There appears to be some sort of manufacturers defect, and a defect that is very, very obvious? Normally bloom / misting only occurs over time?

In the link I posted there are [what appear to be] spurious comments, but there are two in there that give rise for some concern.

As last post, get the installer back, and do not take no for an answer?

Ken.

Yes I do have a FENSA Guarantee.

You are "sorted" suggest you activate the guarantee, sooner the better.

Great , retailers hate this problem and manufacturers even more it’s just inconvenient for everyone involved including your good self the customer who is always King.

They definetly appear to have ' blown ' . As stated they will be under warranty , and first port of call is the original installer, as Fensa do not operate a ' guarantee ' . You will only be able to contact the aftermarket ' Warranty ' if the installer has gone out of business.

Fensa ( and Certass ) is a trade body for self certification , ensuring all members conform to supply and fitting windows to current building regulations, they do not offer any guarantee or warranty for the work done , that is supplied by the installing company , and then registered with a third party warranty company ( which is a proviso of both Fensa and Certass schemes membership ) who will then continue the guarantee if the installing company ceases trading.

As for retailers hating this problem , yes its true we do , but not because of the customer , but because we have to go back and carry out remedial work at OUR cost , work that need to be done through no fault of ours. Looking at those pictures it is clearly a manufacturing issue and NOT an installer issue , BUT the installer is always your first port of call as that is who fitted them , and that is who your contract is with

A quick update. A FENSA rep has inspected and condemned the installation on the basis that so many failed units (22 in total) will mean that the required energy efficiency rating will not be met.
