Started my empty dishwasher last night on a 70c wash. Just one of those Dettol cleaning Bottles in it.

Woke this morning, Dishwasher was power off, water in the bottom of it. Main board had tripped. So... I turned off the wall switch and reset the trip on main board. Then I proceeded to flick the wall switch to on. Bang!

Tripped off at the mains again. So I switched it off at the wall switch once again. I reset the mains trip and turned on the wall switch and we had power.

The machine finished the cycle.

Now... what could have happened the machine? Any ideas?

I had almost exactly the same with something going "bang" and tripping things. By luck I found it was the dishwasher (standing next to it) when I saw the bang/flash.

I had a look and found a trapped wire to the pcb which let go intermittently.

You haven't said what make or model it is but I would suspect the mains filter / suppressor which could be blown open and black marks on it.

Sorry, I should have said. It’s a Leisure DWLT 65. It is about 13 years old. It has just completed a wash cycle at 50c. Heated the water and dried no problem. I was wondering if running it at max temp would have caused it to trip - wouldn’t explain the bang though when things had cooled down hours later when it was turned on?

I’m assuming with the bang something must need replaced. Or... as it is currently working - does anything need replaced?

A suppressor capacitor or TVS component could have blown open-circuit, allowing the machine to run but without transient protection. If you're lucky there will be some visible sign (split-open component, scorch mark) to indicate the point of failure.

This is the only bit I could see that didn’t look too clever. Mainly because it looked like something that was coiled at a stage and went off. Bit of sticky glue type stuff around it as well. No black marks anywhere, this is the only thing that looked off. How does that look to people who know what they’re looking at?
