OK I'm officially baffled. The taps are turning more than 1/4 turn before the water stops and are way out of alignment as a result. So, tightened the grub screw but that only works for a short while and now the plastic teeth on the [ABCDEF*] have worn down and that [ABCDEF*] just spins around the 20 splines that open and close the flow of water. So I'm looking for 2 of those plastic [ABCDEF*] but can't search for them because I haven't got a clue what they're called. Can someone shine a light into my ignorance and tell me what they're called so my good lady can enjoy a bath without shouting at me?

Cheers!!

Probably new tap time. Unless you know the make and model of your tap ,and can source those parts from the manufacturer ,you will likely struggle to source them .

Do you know what the part is called though? So frustrating when it’s only “the plastic thing” in my limited vocabulary

Over the years I’ve replaced something similar on my Trevi therm shower. On my shower, they are called 'clutch wheels' but it’s only a temporary solution because when they start slipping, it’s because the hot and cold valves are seizing up so they have to be changed as well.
