Owned our last two WM's, one for absolutely ages and never had an issue with stinky clothes.

But this new one, a Sammy (excellent in all other respects) is a stinker.

Clothes come out stinkier than when they went in.

I use the cleaning cycle whenever it tells me to.

Thought about what would be the best thing to use. Some say white vinegar, some say bicarb, some say both. Then there are several stinky machine preparations.

In the end, last night, I ran two consecutive hot wash cycles (95°), with a dollop of thick bleach in both.

Seems much better today.

Hot hot hot wash with a cup of washing soda crystals, no powder or fabsoft.

Put white cotton towels in and do the hot cotton wash. If the water goes grey and foams up, that's the soap sludge dissolving. The towels will come out whiter and softer than before.

Modern cool, low-water washes do not dissolve powder well. also check instructions to see that detergent or soap amount is correct.

A water softener also helps.

Only time we have had that is when a filter needs cleaning or what they catch builds up some where in the pipework. The bits of fabric that comes off clothes etc when they are washed build up and retain water which eventually goes off and stinks - bacteria etc. I've only really noticed it on recent machines - progress and low temperature washing.

Apparently washing powder is much less prone to cause stink than capsules...Not sure if true or not.

My SIL purchased a washing machine for £1000!!!!....... freekin jeeeeeez....Main selling point is...It is silent.....Fekooooffffff man. That is proper doo lally tap behaviour.

Check your waste pipe, the bit that your hose goes into before it goes through the wall.
These tend to get a build up of sludge and with a new machine hose it may be allowing any smells to waft back because your new hose will be spotlessly clean but your old waste won't be.

its the time of year i think. hotter weather makes them stink if you dont pull them out and dry them straight away.
i do the bleach thing too.

Remove the powder tray completely, wash it thoroughly.

We have used liquid detergent for some years, I add a capful of Dettol - does no harm.
Towels etc are hot washed sometimes 90° C other times 60° C.
Our tap water is very hard.
Wife demands use of conditioner.
The kitchen was newly installed after we moved in, back in 1994. Neff appliances. I have changed out one dishwasher and one washing machine. Gas hob and extractor remain good.

We paid just over that for our Miele one about six years ago but it came with £200 cashback and a ten year guarantee. Only had them out for the first time a few months ago. Basically it was all scaled up inside despite regular use of Calgon. No charge though which was surprising considering it wasn’t really a fault of the machine. It is quiet though. No stink though but my wife always leaves the drawer and door open slightly.

Is it plumbed in right.? The hose needs to pump up to the height of the W/M then down to what ever its spilling into. Most certainly if its going into a sink trap.

bleached mine earlier. at one point it was rammed full of suds.

Yeah, mine too!
But when the cycles were over, it smelled good again and the last few washes I have done have been spot on.
Or should that be spot off?

wash on a boil wash at least once a month and a cleaner would help. Sounds like a build up of sludge somewhere if the clothing isnt being cleaned may even have a part blockage somewhere. Machines get smelly especially if you keep the door closed after use, however its a bigger problem if clothes are smelly after a wash
