Hiya, guys,
I have been having some quotes for two bay windows and a bedroom window fitted, the salesman was giving me all the patter about how A+ is much better than their B rating ones, the difference in price is about £500, are they really worth the expense compared to B rating, or is there hardly any difference?
Thanks in advance

i havent got a clue
but iff you assume perhaps 1-5% off your total annual fuel can be saved by those windows with extra coating level
if we assume a 15 year pay back to make worth while on £500 thats £33 a year saving now iff we assume an average 2.5 savings that would be an average heating bill savings a month in winter off £33 that would be 33 divided by 2.5= 13.20 x100=1320 so unless your heating bill is around £1320 [2.5 saving from 1320= 33]a month in winter you have a loss
now my figures are guesses and estimates but unless a few pounds extras are seldom likely to cover there costs at the low % saved level

Thanks big-all,

sorry that should be total saving over the winter months off £33 not per month

Find a new company, where the owner comes and quotes you, not a sales man. That way they will actually know about the product, get the right thing for the job, and you aren't paying the overhead of a sales man.

Sorry Phatboy, i have only just seen your post, thanks for the reply, coincidentally i have just contacted two local window frame manufacturers who supply and fit, i would much rather give custom to a local tradesman than one of the national companies, i am waiting to get a price from them

Was that Anglian by some strange ?

We only do A rated frames to residential, honestly the cost difference is quite marginal. I see no need to sell A+ , its all a gimmick to make you feel better. Not one window will end up being A+ or even B rated after several years , as the Argon gas leaks out ....
