How to Choose a Socket for Rachet?

With all due respect I learnt those lessons over 45 years ago when I started out in engineering, and also put them into practice whenever I had to use those infernal wrenches.
Over time they all become loose no matter how much you look after them. In fact, the smaller the wrench, the quicker they deteriorate in my opinion. What doesn't help is when others 'borrow' them for a minute and when you have to go and get it back you see it just tossed on the floor/bench next to the job. (One of the many reasons I used to hate lending tools out to certain people).
Give me the proper sized spanner, nut runner, socket any time.

Me too.
You and me must be the only two people in the world who know how to use them properly because every time I see someone using an adjustable spanner, I see an accident waiting to happen.
I now expect everybody else to jump on the bandwagon saying they know the correct way, too.
I don't know what you are on about regarding the wrenches. Adjustables are so damn useful - here's mine which I always carry in my pocket for the jobs that the Leatherman can't handle. I recommend everyone should have one in their tool kit.

Go to a pound shop they stock tools made from Milky Bar chocolate, often endorsed by Tommy Walsh.

Made in a primitive country, is likely to use UNC threads and AF Inch Size spanners.
Unless you like old cars and tractors or American machinery, you are unlikely to have much use for a set. But there are plenty available in estate sales on ebay from the sheds of elderly gentlemen.
Here is a map of the world showing the countries that do not officially use the SI (metric system)
Don't forget that we still use imperial sized threads and fixings, particularly in the pneumatic and hydraulic world.

Just wanted to report that I've successfully replaced the gear cog. Managed to remove the nut without having to force it. Grass cutting resumed. Thanks for the help.
