Taking over from ADT

Honeywell Galaxy G2 of some kind.

So with the kind help of a well known member of this forum, I have managed to reset my engineer code so in theory can manage the system myself without paying ADT £60 per month. I will lose the police response and I'm aware of that.

Anyway, what now. I have two main questions:

1/ I'm thinking of using the selfmon service for alerts and remote management but not sure if I have the required hardware. From memory there is an ethernet port on the board and I think it was towards the top right of the attached picture. How I can determine if I have the required module?

2/ Below this picture is another box of a similar size. It houses a separate GSM board which I used to pay ADT extra for installation and ongoing charges. I've no idea if it has a sim or how to test it. Could I bring that back into service to send me an SMS or phone call (in addition to the ethernet based alert above) when the alarm goes off? It would then remain as a backup to the fixed wire ethernet in 1/ above.

Note, I don't know what versions of firmware I have and if that is important would definitely appreciate being told how to find that out.

Looks like a 2-12 , you will need an ethernet module , without seeing what’s in the box below can’t comment. but probably will be no use to you at all , get rid of it ..
Galaxy guy will confirm what you need for selfmon and your other queries

There is an ethernet port already on the board - that no good?

The other box is wired to the main box. I'll try and get a pic if I can. I was led to believe it houses the stuff for the dualcom - i.e. a mechanism to get the signal out if the phone line is cut.

Are your p I r s wireless lookin at the pic only looks like one zone ?
 
Yep - that's what ADT installed....

Just don't tell me they can be easily jammed :D
 
Hi, it's not Ethernet that you see on the board, it's a PSTN test port for the on-board telecoms module. It's not of much use these days... If you want IP based event reporting (SelfMon), you will need one of the following:

- LCE-01 module - this will enable monitoring and remote control via virtualkeypad. This can be via SelfMon virtualkeypad apps or HTTPS web based keypad.
- If you don't need the remote control and are happy with event reporting, then Honeywell's own E080 modules will send reports to selfmon. Note that Honeywell's own E080 modules do not provide a virtualkeypad when in the G2 panels

Your firmware at V1.50 is not at the latest revision, but will work with the Ethernet modules. It's better to be at V1.53 or the latest which is V1.56, as the 1.53 implemented a fix for a reporting bug in the firmware, where only the 'final' zone is triggered and this results in the event not being reported to the ARC. Bells still sound, but the report does not get transmitted unless another zone is triggered.

Thanks a lot for that. I'm seriously considering buying (is it the LCE-01-4) I need (plus the £1 a month unless it gets increased )?

Also, do you know how to enable the dualcom (it uses mobile phone tech) to send me SMSs which I could use in parallel ? There is a transmitter in the loft.

Maybe if I purchase your LCE-1-4 you'd be more inclined to tell me ? <grin>

Edit: You said somewhere that you're java virtual keyboard software is free? Could I get a copy if I purchased the lce-1-4 ?

As per sparkymark, the dualcom cannot be configured for stand-alone.

The Java based software isn't provided for download on the SelfMon site any more, but there's no problem sending you a copy. It's distributed under the licensing terms that you may use freely, but cannot re-distribute.

The Flex is a good option for a GSM capable panel that will be compatible with all other parts of your system if you want to upgrade.
 
Yes, perhaps. The metal cased one doesn't support the GSM module either. The flex is a pretty decent solution and there's more automation features to come with the bigger plus version panels. The LCE modules continue to prove popular on the Dimension and G2 panels.

The selfmon service will remain at the £1/month. It's been that price for the last 10 years :) If anything, only the chargeable SMS and Voice costs would increase, but that would only be if wholesale costs increased and I cannot see that happening in the current climate.
 
Managed to take a pic of the box below. It does seem to contain the GSM components.

If I really can't use it, anyone know how to cleanly remove it? Just disconnect all cables going from it to the main panel above?
