Dormer Framing Questions

Hi All,

I've decided to take on converting the loft of my home. This involved converting a traditional Victorian home with a pitched roof into having a rear dormer. I've had the plans drawn up, structural calcs submitted etc. However recently my architect has passed away, and I've got some unanswered questions

Regarding the ridge joists. I assume i'll need to build up the brickwork to support them, and then bolt them to the existing ridge beam? the plans state that I'll bolt together two C16 225x75mm timbers. (any other tips / suggestions?)




Where the dormer frame meets the external wall. How would I attach it to the brickwork?

I agree, they’re not pretty. Something I’m purely doing to add some much needed space in the house

Can't answer your questions as I'm not sure I follow exactly what you're asking, but having converted my loft over the last year, my top-tip is regardless of whether the engineer has said C16 is OK, pay the extra for C24. It's so much better and isn't that much more expensive.
