Please help- fix plasterboard.

We got a builder to close one of the doors in the living /dinning area after we had removed the wall between to create a wider space. Well, the all idea was he to close this door do the plastering and I was happy to do the painting myself.I did the sanding as much as i could as the plasterboard is placed more outside the actual wall, and the painting and it looks horrible. The all project cost us a lot and it end up a complete disaster, it looks so unprofessionally done. Any ideas how i could fix it at this point ?

So the builder did the plastering?

You should of got a plasterer in to do to job , best thing now is to get a plasterer in to sort

Yeah, the builders did the plastering. We booked a team to remove the internal wall to place a beam and to close one of the 2 entrances. As all works cost me almost £6000 I tried to save so we agreed that they will not do the painting and some small finishes on the floor. They ensured me that the wall will be left ready ti be paint. I did pay them so now they are not coming obviously. Cannot afford to get a new builder in, thats why i m tying to find a why to fix it myself.

Technically it is ready to paint , it's just a really bad job

For now you could use filler to smooth off the lines then paint or use thick lining paper then paint , problem is cause it's not flat with the rest of the wall it's going to be noticeable

Other option remove the plasterboard , refit and replaster it yourself (plenty of you YouTube videos) or remove and refit a fresh piece of plasterboard and get a plasterer to put a skim on for you , that wouldn't be too expensive , maybe live with it for now until you can afford to have it done right

builders that can’t plaster? wouldn’t have let them through the door.

I would urge you to get back to the builders - show them that the plastering is not up to their usual standard, and that of course they wouldn't want to leave it that way. Arrange for them to make good or them to pay a plasterer to do so.

It seems a bit unfair not to offer them an opportunity to fix it.

thanks everyone for responding.
Well, i did offer them the opportunity but they arent willing to, as they consider that to make it even it s part of the finishes which they werent supposed to do. I just though that by finishes they meant the painting only, apparently not.

I think i ll wait and get someone do it. Just dont want to make it worse, in youtube looks quite easy not sure if it is though.

Get yourself one of these.

Use wet and dry sandpaper and gently sand in a circular motion. Start with a course grit of 80 or 120 depending on the bulge. If any indentations fill with a fine filler but brush a little PVA glue first. When dry use a 400 grit paper to blend in. If the whole wall not great this paper hides a multitude of sins.

You can fill and sand the the joins for a seamless finish too.

Top Tip.

NEVER PAY A TRADESMAN ALL THE MONEY UP FRONT.

Always agree a payment plan in stages of the work they do holding off the final payment until you have given it the " Woman's touch" as the guy said who rendered my house. LOL He wouldn't take payment for the job until my missus had seen it and was happy.

6k for a knockthrough and blank a door off? WTAF? How many quotes did you get? Unless there's something you aren't sharing that job is a grand at most including building regs fee and a skip.
