Hi everyone I’m looking to change my valiant boiler which was fitted 2009, buy the previous house owner, the boiler makes a funny gurgling bubbling sound and I just think better to be safe and get a new one. I’m looking for recommendations for good quality conventional system boilers, I don’t want a combi want to keep my setup as it is. I have a semi detached house 4 bedrooms 9 radiators and power shower, I was looking at veiseman 200W 35kw is that a decent boiler, any help or advice would be great thank you

Viessmann 200w is a very good boiler, yes, but 35kW is huge overkill for a 9 radiator system. You're probably in need of something closer to 12kW

You must have too much money.

Too much money? The hot water system needs updated not much hot water, the boiler was not serviced properly, time for a new one, this boiler is 11 years old I’ve been told the average life is 10 years for a boiler?

Get the boiler looked at it maybe needs a good service and may be Kettling. Bob

Thanks I had it looked at buy a valiant specialist serviced it for £120 cleans out the heat exchanger but still the boiler gurgles and make a bubbling sound seems to require a lot of gas to get hot water have to keep on max power spending lots on gas bill

I also keep getting F2 error codes which mean I have to reset the boiler .....

A common myth with no basis in reality. The very very early designs of condensing boilers (with a couple of notable exceptions) didn't last very long because they were new technology and not well understood. There's no reason why yours shouldn't go on for another 10 years provided the system is clean - the design of the current Vaillant range is almost exactly the same as yours. They do have a bit of a fatal design flaw which makes them hard to clean once system debris gets lodged into the heat exchanger, but replacement heat exchangers are easy to come by.

If it's got other issues then it might be worth changing it, but age alone should not be the deciding factor

If you are going to bin your boiler every time it gurgles, you might not have them thru one winter.

My pair in old house just renewed there was no central heating or gas hot water to start with, house built 1976 so likely both boilers went in 1978 CH and 1980 DHW so looking at 40 years old, changed because one had a leak on heat exchanger, so just buying house off me.

As with cars there are good and bad and their life varies so look at the mode not average, the mode is the most frequent value in a set of data, and shows the normal rather than a valve which is distorted by those units with a very short or long life. I would say the whole data set was distorted by the condensate boiler, so many boilers were replaced because the new ones were more economic rather than old ones worn out, so likely 20 years is a more realistic figure.

At work the boilers are getting close to 100 years old, OK proper boilers that actually boil water not just heat it up a bit, but they clearly need repairs but new one would cost so much there have been a few made, but very few, Tornado for example, but boilers will typically last 50 years on steam engines, so why not in your house.

The intergas ecorf is good, very reliable, good warranty, can withstand a bit of dirt. can be set in any configuration you want, open vent, sealed, combi.

vokera are good budget options.

veissman are good, but dont let the which magazine fool you they are not bullet proof.

baxi 600 is a good mid range

Atag is also very good.

although the best advise is to find an installer you are happy with and then go with there recommendation. a good boiler fitted badly will be unreliable.

I don’t know the history of the system just brought the house one year ago, the plumbing in the loft is terrible needs a new hot water cylinder also there are 2 cold water tanks, the system needs a power flush which been quoted £500 also I need a new fitted radiator in front room as one was not fitted, so may aswell fit a new boiler as power flush comes with boiler?
