Hi everyone I’m considering getting artificial grass for the lawn part of my garden because I can’t be bothered mowing the lawn, would it be suitable in my garden and what are the pros and cons any advice would be great thank you

Don’t buy the cheap stuff and lay a good base down. Next door to me had it done about 7 years ago and it still looks great. The MIL had a cheap one laid 2 years ago and looks like a greengrocers stall with weeds popping up!

Disadvantages as far as I can see is that you have to continually sweep leaves off of it and if you have a dog with a runny tummy you need to get the hose out pretty quick. Oh, and you can’t beat the smell of a freshly cut lawn.

Same my neighbours got fake grass and weeds popping out? Also what is the good quality one? Also what’s the water draining like? and what if a cat poo on it? Also how do you maintain the fake grass my neighbours hoovers it lol

What’s the water drainage like for fake grass?
When my neighbours had theirs done, the installer dug down and removed about 8” of soil then laid type 1, flattened it with a whacker plate, then a layer of sand, then a weed membrane and possibly more sand on top. Not exactly sure but a good few layers. Go and look at a few different qualities of grass and you’ll soon see the difference. In fact on the MIL's lawn, a tree pruner stood his ladders when pruning some trees and there are flattened dents all over it that have done been able to be teased back up. Looks awful and it’s so plasticky it’s crackles when you walk on it.

You can't beat real grass. Your lawn looks in good shape and 5 minutes mowing a week isn't to taxing.

Keep it!
I’d agree with that too. That could be a cracking lawn with a bit of work.

The used to be ( and probably are ) two types of artificial grass.

(1) soft and realistic looking but not designed for areas where there would be a lot of foot traffic as it wore out quickly.

(2) hard and looked less realistic but tough and hard wearing intended for areas with a lot of foot traffic.

Type (2) caused a lot of cuts to bare skin if people fell over on it.

It would take no more than 15 minutes to mow that lawn, and that includes getting the mower out, cutting the grass, emptying the grass box and putting the mower back.

Buy a robotic lawn mower
Still cheaper than fake

That was my first thought but at an average price of around £400-£500 does a lawn that size justify such a big cost compared to a quick mowing by hand each week?

I have a little bit outside my living room and kitchen French doors. It's great. 2m wide and width of bungalow. Looks great all year round and only cost me £120.
