2015 Picanto 1.0 o/s handbrake cable

I suspect its snapped because there's no movement at the caliper and the wheel spins freely when the hand lever is pulled up.

No one seems to be making the cable and a local factor said its not listed so a KIA only part.

Anyone know of a source other than costly KIA?

Maybe the caliper is seized? Is there excess travel on the handbrake lever?

One of the possibilities.

I'm getting the car on Friday to perform surgery but I wanted to get a cable sourced in case its needed.

The cable was the culprit.

According the handbrake adjuster, the o/s was on but disconnecting at the caliper, the cable wouldn't pull back. Took the cable off and straightened up, definitely some resistance but workable so probably a frayed strand inside snagging a bit? Ran some oil inside and that eased it.

Its back on the car but the n/s, which I also took off is nice and free in comparison. o/s is now working and the price of a cable saved for now.

Any cracks in the plastic sheathing and water gets in.....notorious, and I think this is the same part as the Toyota Aygo / iQ. Always crack on the bends

I'm fitting mud flaps tomorrow so will have a look see if any oil that I poured in has leaked out. Can always dollop a bit of grease on to keep the water out.

The local KIA wanted £82+vat for a new one. The likes of autodoc carry three brands of cable in at far better prices. I'll wager one of the brands is Kai OE.

I must say I’m impressed with autodoc......they were able to supply me with oil filters that the factors couldn’t, and the pics on the website were exactly what I wanted to see.

Its occurred to me that diesel would do a good job of lubricating the cable inside the bowden.

On a episode of Salvage Hunters, one of the restorers was given an antique slot machine to restore. He submerged it in a bath of diesel for a week and it both cleaned and lubricated the entire machine.
