Replacing basin/ bath drainage pupe

Hi,

The external ?soil pipe (In blue) I think is called has gotten blocked so water is leaking from the top every time I use the basin and bath/ shower. I thought it would be a good idea to just replace the whole thing as it looks pretty old.

Could someone please list the components I’d need to replace it with the plastic type? I have basic diy skills, should this be something I can do myself?

If you feel capable, you'd be better routing both waste pipes into the stack, the basin waste could be Tee'd into the bath pipe if you didn't want to take it back through the wall and replace the lot. Get rid of the hopper and associated stink.

Otherwise, if you want to replace like for like you need a Hopper, some 68mm downpipe, 2-3 downpipe clips, and possibly a 'shoe' for the bottom.

Thanks Hugh - I did think about getting someone to combine it all into the one stack, not sure I could do it myself?

Where would it join to the stack? And do I need any special connectors for the basin and bath pipes to combine into one?

You'd connect to the stack using a 'Strap Boss', at a convenient point. If you coupled onto the end of the existing bath waste, and run down the wall at the same angle, then 'dog leg' into the boss with a couple of 45° bends. Basin waste would join using a Tee fitting, reducer if necessary and a compression coupling onto the existing basin waste pipe.

That 68mm pipe is bigger than the original iron pipe - much less likely to block, if ever .

Have you checked if the hopper or drain pipe is blocked? I'd be tempted to run a 3m length of plastic pipe down that and see if it clears it.

The problem now is that the 32mm pipe only seems to come in 3m lengths on Screwfix, which I can't fit in my car.. are there any other alternatives or places that sell in smaller lengths?

Alternatively, how much should a local plumber charge me for this? I assume it would not take long, I am in the Luton area.

Yes you take a saw and cut the pipe

Check if there is a combined rainwater and Foul Water drainage system, it appears rainwater and foul water run into same drain .
