Afternoon all,

apologies for the noob question,

I haven't seen (sheltered life?) piping for a washing machine like this before..I'm assuming connect the machine pipes to both or just one of the connectors?

And also assuming that random pipe sticking up bottom right is the outlet pipe, although I haven't really looked at it..

Assuming those feeds are cold supplies, just connect to one of them.
Could really do with a new valve (with handle on it) so you can shut it off quick if there's a fault.
The outlet pipe should be for the machine waste but it needs an elbow and then a washing machine upstand trap.

The one to the right looks as if somebody has applied something around where the handle should be to possibly stop a leak and the bottom compression joint nut is mullered not to mention PTFE tape where there should be none so either change it or try the other one.

Sometime you have to remove handles to get the hose to washing m/c to tighten fully.

It looks as if the two copper pipes are intended for two appliances, washing machine &dishwasher - so yiu only need one of those. Pipe on right looks like a drain, but check where it goes, there should be a trap on it, but it also looks as if it might be too low.

They could do with bit of support too, get them clipped to the wall, much safer to use then.

As @dilalio suggests, a compression elbow on top of the grey pipe a little piece of pipe then an appliance standpipe for the appliance waste outlet. That'll need clipped to the wall too.

Thanks all,

next Q - if I'm feeling lazy, how much would an (average) plumber charge for that (new valves/waste/clipping)?

Anyone here working Sheffield guys?

Don`t know prices around there and whilst it looks an ok job they can easily go south, total stab in dark £75 - 150. ask around friends, family & neighbours if they know somebody.

The valves should point downwards to avoid the hose straining and the pipework fully clipped.

Ha, about to move in, lots of other jobs to do..not sure what tools I have in storage/where they are etc.

I'll have a look at it though. Are there any specifics about how high traps need to be etc etc?
