What have you been doing today?

Washed my pool filter - only just read the leaflet that says wash every day, and change when needed. Had it a month. Seems OK ish, flow still alright, but ordered some new filter cartridges.

Managed to remove more wall without electrocuting myself last night, and put down 2 new joists. Although now worried the joist near the wall is in the wrong place, as needs room for radiator pipes....

Went for an early swim in the outdoor pool. Lovely and warm. 18 people with 4 lifeguards in attendance. One young girl constantly going round wiping the hard surfaces people may have touched. Home for breakfast, plus cup of coffee and a fag ouside whilst reading another chapter of my book. Pack my wifes mobility scooter into the car and we all spent a couple of hours at Great Yarmouth where my stepson narrowly beat me at crazy golf. Now sending out for a Chinese takeaway and then settle down for some biard games later.

Was supposed to be going to the dentist for a clean, but developed a sore throat and light cough yesterday.

I'm sure it's nothing (either an allergy recurrence or a touch of dust from sanding), but, after weeks of isolation, I did spend a couple of days wandering around shops last week, plus a friend helped me pick up some furniture. Don't want to put anyone at risk though.

I’ve lost a filling and left a message with my dentist. They called back today. Still not allowed to do drilling but can do a ‘telephone triage' for £30 which will be knocked off the bill if I have it done. No point in that really so got to wait until they are fully up and running.

Serviced my mates car today and took it back to him just a while ago. Brought his wife’s car back with me and I have to service that tomorrow. Mrs Mottie ain’t too pleased as he's an ambulance driver and she is a nurse but they are both well Covid aware and regularly tested.

Last day of crawling about under cars for me today until September. I’ve spent every day this week doing friends and relatives cars. Service after service after bloody service. I was getting bored with not working since March but if I’m being honest, I’ve found that actually, not working isn’t too bad at all and I could get used to it. A mate of mine who had his own company told me on Monday he's realised there’s more to life than work and has chosen retirement and I’m starting to come round to that way of thinking too. We'll see - maybe I only feel that way because I’m aching like a bastard and my real work is nowhere as physically demanding but, I’ll still have to get up and take the trip to work every bloody day..........

In the end, time is all any of us have.
Spend your time making you and yours the happiest you can. If that means work, work. If it means not working, don't work.

I was furloughed for almost three months, and went back mid - June. I say "went back" but, in reality, I've spent my time visiting the lads on site, and working from home. Luckily, (and against the wishes of a director), I made my department mostly "electronic" some years ago, so my department works whatever the physical location.

I love the ten to fifteen hours per week I don't waste on commuting to the office; I get up at ten to, and start at seven, I eat better, I don't have to mix in an unsafe building, I don't have to queue for insufficient welfare facilities, I'm not spending £200 on diesel, I don't get interrupted with ridiculous trivialities / bitching and whinging and office gossip.........

Much, much better for my physical and mental health, my productivity, my family life, and my pocket (y)

I can't argue with that. I've been semi retired since last February. Took early retirement but was quickly fed up so got a part time job. Do 80hrs per month which can be 2 days 1 week and 4 the next but the work is much easier and the pay less but I am much, much more happier. I now have more time with my family and can spend time in my shed making things for pleasure.

Getting back to the original thread topic. Today we have packed our bags and left the holiday park we were due to leave on Monday.
Loaded the car up this morning for a day out in Gt Yarmouth then went back in the caravan for breakfast. While we were eating, the groundsmen came round on mowers and with strimmer's to trim the grass. Getting ready to leave for our day trip and discover my back windscreen had been shattered, presumably by one of the mowers/strimmer's flicking a stone at it. Can't get it repaired until at least Monday and park manager says company insurance won't cover the car if it is 'rendered easily accessible through damage howsoever caused', but agrees they are responsible for the damage and will pay for the replacement on their insurance. We have a written statement from him to prove this is what he agreed. Spoilt the holiday though. :(

Finally painted bathroom, then saw it dry in daylight and decided I don't like it. I can't seem to mix the blue I need. One more try tomorrow, then will probably have to accept I may have to go beige.

Sanded, sugar soaped and oiled the hallway woodwork.

Went up into the loft to check for leaks and unwanted visitors. Found wasps. Backed away slowly.

This evening, spent far too much time on a local forum trying to inform people that many disabled people can actually cycle and that they don't have to be entirely car dependent.
(Anyone saying 'But what about disabled people?' as part of their argument usually knows nothing about disabled people and forgets about them when it's not convenient.)

another day on the beach, managed a swim but that north sea is far from warm, or my bomes are getting too old
