Hi all,

Your help would be much appreciated. New basin and unit to be installed soon. I want a tiled splash back. Using smallish ceramic tiles for the DIY job.

Do I tile below the height of the rear of the basin top or wait until the basin is installed and tile down to it?

thanks in advance for your help.

If it's just a splashback , install the sink first then tile down to it , don't forget to use silicone to seal the edge where the tile meets the sink

One more question about this. I plan to start the 2 rows of tiling from the sink level upwards. Do I rest the bottom row of tiles on tile spacers on top of the basin in order to create a space that I can grout underneath the first row? I would then apply Dow Corning 785 along the basin / bottom tile row junction once the grout had dried.

Is that the right way to do things?

Leave a 2mm spacer gap from bottom of tile to top of basin, don’t grout this, just silicone it
