Reclaimed Parquet floor

Hi all,

We just recently had a reclaimed parquet floor installed, we provided the wood(early Victorian).

Overall it looks great and has sanded down nicely. It covers a 30 metre square area running between two rooms. In some places it doesn't look completely flat, is this to be expected with reclaimed parquet?

Should every block be completely sealed around the edge with resin and sawdust, as thats not the case with ours, and we are seeing a few gaps.

Honestly not sure if either of these are perfectly normal or if it should have been taken care of in the sanding.

I can only say that when my original floor was professionally sanded and sealed.....

I had repaired a section where a set of French windows had been replaced with a patio door.
He sanded the whole lot about three times, then mixed sawdust and a filler compound, spreading it all over the entire floor. Then another sand before several coats of sealant

My floor isn't flat in engineering terms, but pretty flat in housebuilding terms.

It is pretty flat, just not perfectly so all over. Theres the odd bit here and there where there is a little rise. Maybe thats to be expected.

What about the gaps between the blocks, were they all totally filled when he had finished?

I’ve just had a brand new oak parquet floor installed in our hall, cloak room and downstairs toilet. It’s dead flat and no gaps between any parquets. The small gaps between the parquets were filled when the floor was sanded.
