Hi, just doing my first tiling job. I have 5 tiles to cut in half for the end of the room. I tried scoring them with this little tool I got (photo attached) but then it's incredibly hard to snap and when I did it broke into many pieces

Is this tool wrong? It worked on my thinner wall tiles ok. Do I need to buy a tile cutter?

My adhesive is going off now, probably have another hour before it's ruined. So if I'm doing something wrong let me know

Thanks

You need a tile snapper.
If your tiles are ceramic you can buy one from any diy store for £30.
Porcelain will require a better tool.
That scoring tool is only good for 100x100 biscuit tiles used in rented places.
I have cut corners on them by biting.

Thats biting with pliers not his teeth lol
If the adhesive is going off, take the tiles off and wash it off them until you can get the proper tools.

How do I know if they are ceramic, can you tell from the photo?

A tool like this?

It's only a few tiles so I'd rather spend as little as possible

Thanks, yeah I chucked the adhesive. Hopefully I've got enough to do those last few tiles! I don't want to buy another bag

Buy a cheap angle grinder with a decent porcelain tile blade. That will be your best option as you will need it anyway to deal with the cuts around the doorway.

Are the tiles I photographed porcelain? I thought they were ceramic but I threw the box away!

They look like porcelain to me.
Ah ok I thought they were ceramic. A grinder could be useful for other jobs, but grinder with tile blade will be £70, the tile cutter is £13. I'm so over budget!

Grinder £25

diamond cutting disc £6

£31 total, then you have it handy for other jobs, get your hand in your pocket lol

Thanks for looking for me! I won't buy that cheap brand stuff, it breaks! But I think a grinder will be useful for other stuff, but I'll get a Makita or Bosch one. Will cost about £70 overall with tile blade.

Can you get as nice an edge with the grinder as with a tile cutter?

I am no tiler, but if you have a steady hand, i cant see why not

i purchased this
https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-masonry-tile-diamond-cutting-blade-125-x-22-23mm/3434v
for my 125mm dewalt grinder (125mm because thats the grinder I have) and disappointed cutting porcelain tiles, all the edges chipped , in my case it did not matter as ALL the edges are hidden.
i'm about to buy a load of ceramic tiles and posted a question here ,
https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/tile-cutter-blade-for-ceramic-tiles.549168/
I have spoken to ATS and they have been helpful and the blades are reasonable priced compared to rubi
BUT they suggested I should have used a wet cut for the porcelain tiles and thats an expensive
But thought you may want to have a read.
I also believe the continuous blades give better results - BUT cant remember where i read that

Hi mate yeah I saw that. There's one from Toolstation which everyone seems to say although not absolutely perfect it's near enough. Pretty good reviews and only a couple of quid extra. Have you seen it :

No chance, unfortunately.
It will chip like mad.
Can you go a bit over budget and rent a proper tile cutter?
Not too sure those tiles are porcelain, although they look like it from the pictures.
Can't you check online?
