Boiler losing connection with thermostat, please help

Because that was sold to them , and that was what they wanted, that is what they paid for so that is what they should get
Honestly I’m happy with simple and basic. We have used wireless in other houses no issue, so didn’t even consider there would be a problem here and just went with what the installer said which is a Bosch product to go with the Bosch boiler. I don’t need fancy gadgets or even to control my heating from my phone etc, just want it to work. I appreciate your thoughts on it, I clearly need to be a bit tougher with the Worcester team which I don’t find easy especially when they are telling me they don’t know about this issue.

How far from the boiler is the receiver ?

There are at least two sources of low level radio frequency energy in the boiler which could affect the receiver if the receiver is close to the boiler.
(1) The electronics of the controller in the boiler ( the PCB ) will produce radio frequency energy.
(2) The variable speed drivers for the fan and pump(s) will produce radio frequency energy.

The design should ensure that this RF energy cannot affect the operation of the receiver.

Just tell them then, that if they cant sort it you will accept a hard wired simple control system fitted at their expence, as already said your installer sold it and installed it, so use them to pressure the rep

I have tried it a meter or so away in the same room, then in the next room and also two rooms away. Same problem everywhere it is. It won’t pick it up at all any further then that.

Does sounds as if you've got something else nearby radiating on whatever frequency the thing runs on, especially if it connects no problem when you have it near the boiler.
One experiment (which i don't know if you'd be allowed to do cos might need room seal removing and the thing is under warranty so meddling would be unwise) would be to extend the 2 core link from the plinth (bizarre translation but hey) to the boiler, move the plinth 3 m or so from the boiler & see if that changes anything. If you get another WB engineer on site you could suggest it, it would def help in proving or disproving interference from the boiler/pump.

Would love to say I understood that :) but thank you, will see what Worcester say. Also just to clarify we still have same issue with it dropping even if it’s right next to the boiler. It’s so intermittent ( and often v late at night) that it would be impossible to get anyone round when it’s actually doing it which makes it more annoying

That said this appears in the Tech manual f (RF) MHz f = 868.3 … 869.5 [EU] which is not a WiFi frequency. I would assume this mode of communication is to enable the system to be sold to people who do not have a home WiFi network

What ever it uses for the link between thermostat and boiler the system would appear to be very much over designed and it not surprising that the average service technician could be out of his or her depth when fault finding on such a complicated system.

Thank you, yes that’s exactly where our receiver is. I have emailed Worcester and asked if they have a more experienced electrician team that can look in to this, will follow up with a call tomorrow. Seems from what you say it won’t be a simple fix or easy to get someone who knows what they are doing. Appreciate you taking the time

Ahh, missed that bit (about 868.3 etc). I understood from the manual that WiFi was for smart TRVs and the connection to the Bosch servers (which then let you use their app to do things). Sure I used to have radiomics up in that area, if you have a mate with a wideband scanner def worth borrowing it and investigating that band- if you're anywhere near DL1 postcode you can borrow mine :)
 
We got a (cheap unbranded) baby monitor that seems to disturb our wireless boiler thermostat. Do you have anything like this?
 
I had a problem with a wireless thermostat which slowly lost range, but it sounds as if in your case there is some external interference, @bernardgreen has shown the frequency range and this Ofcom report shows what else uses those frequencies, including items like smart meters. You may when reading the report see something which is used in your area.

However reading the instructions it seems the installer has further instructions on how to cure faults, so I would simply call the installer back and let him sort it.
