What size hole saw?

Does anyone know the hole saw size required for a UK standard plugtop to pass through?

I'd plan to fit a socket in my kichen base unit, so that my washing machine can be assessed and switched on/off without pulling the entire unit out

Huh? Holesaw ? "plug top" assume you mean socket? Still don't understand.

EDIT: You want the min sized hole for a plug to pass through, yes?

because you can push a cable through and then put a plug on the other side.

I like white duraplugs or toughplugs because they are slightly resilient and not easily cracked

When you buy a new plug, it has a cardboard illustrated fitting instruction attached

If somebody tells you that removing a factory plug voids the guarantee, they are talking nonsense.

Use a pair of dividers and transfer the measurement; use the next size up hole saw. Test on paper first if unsure.

That's fairly generous. A standard 13A plug will go through a hole about 55 mm, a little less if one is happy to 'hook the earth pin over the edge of the hole' to get it through.

so you take the plug off again. i would rather fit/refit a plug than have a huge hole in a unit

Actually holes neatly cut don't look too bad.
Inside a cupboard so not really seen anyway.

It's when people use a hammer to 'cut' them they look terrible.

A desk grommet can be put into the hole, if having a hole in a concealed cupboard is a problem.

Removing and refitting a plug is not an option for people who have appliances delivered and expect them to be 'installed' (plugged in) by the delivery person.
