I can't risk breaking this as then I'll be without a bedroom blind and all my neighbours would be able to see in and I'm not risking a handyman during Covid, so could anyone tell me what I should do with this blind?

I can't turn the screw much either clockwise nor anti-clockwise to release the chain guard, so don't know what to try next. I can't force the chain component out of the blind either. I've heavily WD-40'ed everything and still nothing will budge. Thank you.

Are you saying the blind won't roll up or down via the chain?

You could manually unroll it for now for privacy

Handyman is not worth it as he would probably charge more than a new blind would cost

That's not a screw it's what hold the blind up so you can unroll it via the chain , you might be able to lever the grey "screw" out to remove the chain cover

Hi sircerebus666,

yes, this blind's chain is totally stuck. I have 11 blinds in total and 4 of them require attention, as I'm living in a semi-dark flat now since March due to lockdown/shielding.

Three of the blinds have the chain link too close to the wheel so the blind can't be rolled up.

The one I've uploaded photos for just won't budge either way, and the chain-link is nowhere near the wheel.

I'll try and lever out the grey part, as you suggested. Thanks,

Here's a photo of me trying to prise away the grey middle 'screw' with a knife, it wont budge either. I think I'll leave this blind as is.

... good news: chain guard just popped off manually.

Bad news: chain wheel still won't turn.

Even worse news, I can't get the blind back up as the pin is stuck in the bracket and won't budge. I wish I just let it be.

I got the blind back up by inserting one end into the pin that was stuck and then forcing the other end with the chain in with a screwdriver. Then, once, in, the tension in the chain made it work both ways. I now need to attempt the other four but think I might give it a miss, what with the hot weather coming, as I'll need the blinds in place! They're at least 10 years old and some of the plastic bits looks fragile and could break on me. Thanks for your help. I wouldn't have known not to keep trying to turn that inner 'screw' if you hadn't had replied. I would have wasted hours on it!
