Reports are that 10 people have been killed after a fireworks factory exploded. I can’t believe only 10 people unfortunately. Given the size of the blast I doubt any organisation could have done it and as such I think the factory exploding is actually the truth...

Whatever it was or turns out to be I have can never ever recall watching an Explosion where water vapour ??? if that was what it was the huge white expanding ploom that simply evaporated??

Given in the greater scheme of things, especially Explosives, I am very skeptical that it was a "fireworks factory" Fireworks explosives are way, way down on the scale of explosive power,

To cause a vaporization of water on the scale seen would take a massive load of weapons grade explosive ???

A positive pressure wave ( compression ) in very humid air will cause water vapour to condense into visible droplets. These will evaporate back into water vapour when the pressure wave has passed.

EDIT It could also have been water blown out of the docks.

RT television mentioned sodium nitrate (fertiliser? ) being taken from a ship in the port and stored in the port.

Bernard, totally agree.

Never ever seen that happening before.

To get that sort of Pressure Wave needs a truly massive source, certainly not "simple" fireworks that work on Gunpowder

To occasion that force and associated massive pressure wave, if it was the fertiliser there must have been hundreds if not thousands of tonnes of the stuff??

The BBC has just posted this update

Lebanon's Prime Minsiter Hassan Diab has said it is "unacceptable" that 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate were being stored in a warehouse.

"I will not rest until we find the person responsible for what happened so we can hold them to account and impose the most severe punishment," the prime minister was quoted as saying by an official Twitter account.

"It is unacceptable that a shipment of 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate has been present for six years in a warehouse, without taking preventive measures and endangering the safety of citizens".

WOW! One hell of an explosion. Can't believe only 10 people may have been killed in that.
The blast wave alone would have taken quite a few more lives of innocent people in the surrounding area.
